The Lodge celebrates its Bicentenary meeting in 2010. This page is here to bring you news from the Lodge committees which are arranging the celebrations. If you have any views to offer, please by all means send them to the Chairman of the 2010 committee. Please note that this page will only include selected information - for a full account, please would members of the Lodge refer to Jeremy Lund and others refer to the Secretary. The Bicentenary date is April 25th, 2010. Continuity of working has been established in the records of Grand Lodge and therefore permission has been granted to celebrate the bicentenary in established Masonic form. It is highly likely that a dignitary from Grand Lodge will attend as guest of honour. As April 25th, 2010 falls on a Sunday no Masonic
meeting can be held then. That week is, in any case, unsuitable as it is the
week of Grand Lodge's annual meeting. The committee has accordingly settled on Wednesday, June 2nd as the preferred date for the celebration.
The venue for the meeting will be Shrewsbury School, with
the Masonic meeting in the Alington Hall at 4 pm and the Festive Board in the Kingsland
Hall (6.30 for 6.45 pm). Brethren
other than Lodge members who are hoping to attend would do well to pencil this
into their diaries - as the last bicentenary in Shropshire was in 1988 and the
next not until 2052 we are expecting plenty of interest from within the
Province! The April meeting of 117 (which falls after the 25th but before the June festival) will be a 'white table' meeting with Ladies present to dine. It is likely that this occasion will include a presentation on the 200 year History of the Salopian Lodge of Charity. The Bicentenary meeting will include an Oration, a brief History of the Lodge as well as the Consecration of a new banner, whose pattern will in many respects resemble the present one, except that the words "AN ATHOLL LODGE" will be included. A Bicentenary Warrant will also be presented to the Lodge and from that point the Bicentenary Jewel may be worn by members of the Lodge. Deputations from Grand Lodge and Provincial Grand Lodge will hopefully be in attendance. At the Festive Board it is expected that substantial donations to Charity will be made.
